Green Turtle Cay Project
Client: The Government of The Bahamas/ Disaster Reconstruction Authority
Location: Green Turtle Cay, Abaco, Bahamas

The Green Turtle Cay Waste Transfer Station was established to provide a sustainable and efficient waste management solution for residents and businesses throughout Green Turtle Cay. The facility serves as a centralized location for the collection, sorting, processing, and transportation of various waste streams, helping to protect the island's environment.
Our team is responsible for the operational management and oversight of the facility, ensuring that waste materials were handled safely, efficiently, and in accordance with environmental and safety standards.

The Challenge
As an island community, Green Turtle Cay faces waste management challenges, including limited disposal space, environmental sensitivities, and the logistical complexities of transporting waste to mainland disposal facilities. Our team was task with converting an open-air waste site to a new modern waste transfer station capable of managing multiple waste streams while maintaining site safety, environmental compliance, and efficient transportation operations.

Our
Solution
We implemented a comprehensive waste management and transfer station operation program designed to maximize efficiency, environmental stewardship, and community service. This included establishing detailed operating procedures for waste acceptance, sorting, site maintenance, pest control, safety management, and transportation logistics.
Our team coordinated the collection and segregation of construction debris, demolition materials, household waste, hazardous materials, electronics, metals, and yard waste materials. Through organized processing systems and scheduled barge transportation, waste was safely transferred from Green Turtle Cay to the approved mainland disposal facility while reusable and recyclable materials were diverted from the waste stream whenever possible.
